New Delhi, Delhi · IST

- Shukla Purnima: 3:06 AM to 5:26 AM (30 Jun)
What it is and how it is observed
Vat Purnima is the same Vat Savitri vrat as kept on Jyeshtha Purnima in Maharashtra, Gujarat and the south (amanta calendar), fifteen days after the North Indian date. Married women fast and worship the banyan tree for their husbands' long life.
How the date is fixed
Jyeshtha (amanta) Shukla Purnima: tithi prevailing at Madhyahna (midday fifth of the day).
Two traditions: this is the Purnima (amanta) date of Maharashtra, Gujarat and the south; North India keeps Vat Savitri on the Amavasya fifteen days earlier.
